Visit Norway trolls Trump’s toilet insult – showcasing its most scenic loos

Visit Norway has responded to Donald Trump calling the nation a “shit house country” by showing tourists just how good its toilets are.

The tourist board turned the president’s insult into a showcase of spectacular public loos, pairing striking architecture with fjords, mountains and coastal views in a post captioned “the world’s most beautiful and spectacular toilets.”

Trump’s outburst followed his frustration at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Visit Norway took the description rather more literally than he intended.

Its guide includes the Golden Toilet on Senja, a triangular building clad in gold-coloured material, and Ureddplassen, a wave-shaped facility overlooking the sea. These are roadside stops worth pulling over for, even if your bladder can wait.

Evgenia Egorova, senior adviser at Visit Norway, told NRK: “Sometimes it doesn’t take much, just a little do-it-yourself humour and fantastic Norwegian architecture.”

The response puts the country’s scenery at the centre of the joke. Every toilet picture doubles as a tourism advert, giving people drawn in by the presidential spat a reason to consider a visit.

It follows another dry Norwegian tourism pitch: Visit Oslo’s Christmas musical starring its grump, in which a reluctant local struggles to put visitors off.
