Firefox brings back the internet’s original meme stars
Firefox has reunited some of the internet’s earliest viral stars for a campaign asking former users to give the browser another go.
Created by We Believers, ‘Come Back to Firefox’ puts familiar faces to modern frustrations, from online tracking to unwanted AI.
The cast includes Numa Numa Guy, Bad Luck Brian, Overly Attached Girlfriend, Tay Zonday and Annoying Orange.
Directing collective Sunny Sixteen recreated their original performances, looks and sets with production by nobodys.
The jokes practically write themselves. Overly Attached Girlfriend wanted to know everything about you, but your browser shouldn’t. Annoying Orange remains irritating, but the campaign argues that forced AI features are worse.
It gives the nostalgia a job to do: remind lapsed users of the web they enjoyed, then offer greater control over the one they use now.
“Firefox was there then, we’re here now, and what we stand for matters more than ever,” said Mozilla CMO John Solomon.
We Believers founder and CCO Gustavo Lauria said: “We wanted an idea that truly belongs to Firefox, a challenger browser that helped shape the internet’s golden years and stayed independent as Big Tech took over.”
The campaign launched on NBC in the US on 25 October with two 30-second ads, ahead of a rollout in Germany, France and the UK.
