Razom’s air raid alarm clock sounds off for Ukraine
By James Herring on Monday, February 24, 2025
To mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NGO Razom for Ukraine has created an Air Raid Alarm Clock.
A device designed to bring the harrowing reality of war straight to the desks of policymakers.
Synced with Ukraine’s official air raid alert system, the clock blasts the same sirens heard in the war-torn region – 42 times a day on average, serving as an inescapable reminder of the ongoing crisis.
The campaign also includes a satirical infomercial featuring Ukrainian actor Denis Sheck, highlighting the absurdity of global inaction while real-life air raid alerts interrupted filming 38 times.
Conceived by Ukrainian creative Max Burtsev with a team of creative partners including Officer & Gentleman the device aims to shake US and EU politicians into action.
“The Air Raid Alarm Clock is our way of making at least a few people in the world hear what we hear every day. If words fail to break through the deafness of politicians, perhaps sound will – a sound that cannot be ignored.” says Burtsev.
The clock not only emits sirens but also displays real-time data, including the locations under attack and the percentage of Ukraine currently under alert, reinforcing the scale of the devastation.
To drive home the urgency, Razom has hand-delivered the clocks to key US and European lawmakers and launched a demonstration in Brussels’ Luxembourg Square, where the sirens rang out near the European Parliament, drawing attention from shocked passersby and officials.
By making decision-makers experience even a fraction of Ukraine’s daily reality, Razom hopes this jarring wake-up call will reignite urgency among global allies.
The clock is ticking, and Ukraine’s future hangs in the balance.
