IKEA helps fix Skyrim’s clutter problem
IKEA has entered The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with KALLAX Storageborn, a free downloadable companion (voiced by Matt Berry) that solves one of the role-playing game’s oldest annoyances: carrying too much stuff.
Created by Mother with Kinggath Creations, the campaign turns IKEA’s storage credentials into an actual piece of gameplay rather than simply placing the brand inside a gaming world.
Skyrim’s “over-encumbrance” mechanic slows players down when their inventory gets too heavy, a frustration that has fuelled memes for almost 15 years.
KALLAX fixes it with unlimited storage, automatic loot collection and the ability to tidy clutter from players’ virtual homes.

Players encounter the sentient shelving unit through a new quest that leads to a suspiciously familiar Dwemer furniture store.
Once assembled, Berry’s KALLAX can be summoned using the new Dragon Shout “AYE KEY YAH”. There is also a clutter-filled dungeon and a boss fight against a Clutter Golem.
IKEA has previously experimented with gaming through its virtual Roblox store, but Storageborn goes further by making the brand’s actual expertise part of the game mechanic.
“We hope to not only make a meaningful difference for Skyrim players, but doing so with a touch of added IKEA playfulness,” said Kemi Anthony, Marketing Communications Manager at IKEA UK and IE.
Mother executive creative director Nick Hallbery said: “It’s been 15 years and no one had solved the biggest pain point for players.”
The idea also neatly extends IKEA’s recent habit of turning familiar brand truths into creative mechanisms, from billboards hiding household clutter to last week’s Swedish pronunciation challenge.
KALLAX Storageborn is available free through Bethesda Game Studios’ in-game Creations menu, supported by digital, social, in-store and PR activity.
