‘Shatter the illusion of festive perfection’ with Shelter and B&Q

B&Q have partnered with the housing and homelessness charity, Shelter, to release a collection of baubles spotlighting the harsh reality for many families living in temporary accommodation this Christmas.

As more than 17 million people in the UK prepare to buy their Christmas tree and decorations this week, a record number of 159,380 children in temporary accommodation cannot relate.

To highlight the challenging and often inadequate living conditions faced by many families this festive season, B&Q has collaborated with Shelter to craft unique snow globe scenes that shatter the illusion of festive perfection, inspired by real families stories.

Grace, a mother of two, knows the struggle all too well. Despite having mobility issues, she was placed in temporary accommodation that didn’t take this into account.

When another mother, Lauren, and her three sons became homeless, they were placed in one hotel room with a tiny fridge freezer and filthy microwave.

The alternative snow globe scenes will be hung on trees at B&Q stores nationwide from this week. The DIY retailer is donating £1 from every real tree sold to Shelter across the festive season and hosting fundraising activities across 311 stores throughout the UK from 6th – 8th December.

Donations made by customers at checkout will be matched by B&Q. The retailer is also selling Shelter Christmas jumpers and cards with all proceeds donated to the charity.
