IKEA gives its iconic meatballs a designer plate

By on Tuesday, August 19, 2025

Design studio Gustaf Westman has teamed up with IKEA to design something unique: a porcelain plate made specifically for serving Swedish meatballs.

The elongated, turquoise-blue dish is the first item revealed from the designer’s upcoming 12-piece collaboration with the brand, set to launch this September.

The design features a row of small indentations just big enough for 11 meatballs

“The design is simple, lining up the meatballs so each one is visible, like they’re sitting on little thrones,” Westman told Dezeen.

True to IKEA’s brand language, the plate comes with instructions – not for assembly, but for how to cook and plate the meatballs.

IKEA also suggests using the plate for other small dishes, like olives or fruit.

“This collaboration is about taking the traditions of gathering in the home and reimagining them through playful and unexpected designs,” said IKEA’s Maria O’Brian.

The full collection drops 9 September.
