San Jose Sharks turn their ice rink into a shark tank
The San Jose Sharks have taken their name literally, creating the illusion of sharks swimming beneath the ice as players enter the rink at SAP Center in California.
The pregame display transforms the playing surface into rippling water, with sharks moving beneath it. As the hockey team skates out, the rink appears to have become an enormous aquarium.
Annie Moore shared the video from the stadium on X.
Suddenly, the venue’s ‘Shark Tank’ nickname feels rather appropriate.
The Sharks swimming in the water is a magnificent detail. I can’t look away. #SJSharks https://t.co/RsHMpo6sw6

The underwater sequence forms part of a wider matchday show featuring lasers, on-ice graphics and the team’s giant shark-head entrance.
Like LEGO’s Battersea Power Station takeover, it uses animation to make a familiar surface behave in an unexpected way. Here, the entertainment starts before anyone has touched the puck.
