Oura skips AI to build a tiny city where hands do the walking

Oura has built a miniature city populated by walking, dancing hands for ‘Wear Your Best Life’, a brand campaign created with Nice+Frank to promote Oura Ring 5.

The smart ring brand says it shunned AI in favour of handmade sets and practical effects, turning the close-up shots its product demands into the idea behind the film.

Director Sam Walker and 35 modelmakers in Prague built 12 sets and eight miniature cars in three weeks. The city borrows from London, New York and Los Angeles, with working train lights, remote-controlled cars and tiny showers pumping real water.

Choreographer Lilach Chen, known for her ‘fingerbreaking’ videos, coached 14 hand dancers from 14 countries to stride through streets and dive into miniature pools.

“We weren’t interested in making a standard product spot,” said Oura’s Giselle Persak.

The idea keeps the ring in view throughout, giving Oura a distinctive way to show what separates it from wrist-worn trackers.

It also fits a wider creative trend: brands making a feature of how their advertising is physically made.

Apple TV’s glass logo was built and filmed using practical lighting, while De’Longhi’s miniature cafés turned coffee machines into handcrafted shopfronts. The making becomes another story worth sharing.

Oura’s campaign launched this week in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, spanning TV, outdoor, social and retail.
