Dove’s ‘Real Beauty Sketches’ reveal female insecurities

By on Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Dove has created a video as part of its Real Beauty campaign.

The Dove Real Beauty Sketches ad, by Ogilvy & Mather Brazil, is designed to demonstrate how self-critical many women are, and how their own views about their appearance doesn’t match what others see. Participants in the experiment had to sit behind a curtain and describe their looks to a sketch artist, who then drew a picture based on their descriptions. Once the woman had finished, she left and a stranger that

she had just met that day took her place. They then described what the woman looked like.

The video shows how the sketches drawn based on the women’s descriptions of themselves were more unflattering than those created from the strangers descriptions. It’s clearly struck a chord with fans, notching up more than 2.5 million views in just three days.
