Meta smart glasses mocked by fake notices on London Underground

London’s backlash against camera-equipped smart glasses has reached the Tube, with spoof stickers styled as official TfL safety notices appearing inside Underground carriages and warning wearers that “everyone thinks you look like a massive nonce”.

The stickers borrow the visual language of public transport signage, complete with TfL blue, a simplified glasses icon and a Wi-Fi-style signal.

A crude intervention, but one that taps into growing discomfort around smart glasses and covert recording.

Just last month, DuckDuckGo took aim at the same tension with Normal F***ing Sunglasses, a pair of deliberately dumb shades sold on having no cameras, microphones, AI or electronics.

The Tube stickers follow fake bus-stop ads targeting smart glasses this summer from activist group Everyone Hates Elon, which has made hijacking familiar advertising formats part of its playbook.

Previous stunts include spoof Amazon Alexa ads and its viral anti-Tesla bus shelter.

Together, the work points to a problem smart-glasses makers cannot fix with better hardware. The more invisible the camera becomes, the more visible the social unease around wearing one appears to be.
