Aldi unveils jacket that transforms into a shopping bag

Aldi has created a jacket that transforms into a reusable shopping bag in 10 seconds, turning one of Britain’s most common supermarket mistakes into a piece of wearable brand merch.

The idea comes from a familiar bit of consumer behaviour. New Aldi research found 46% of Brits regularly forget their shopping bags, while 85% have a “bag of bags” at home.

Almost half buy another reusable carrier at least once a month after leaving theirs behind.

Aldi’s solution is simple: wear the bag instead.

The waterproof navy bomber has a funnel neck, large pockets and Aldi’s blue and orange detailing. In seconds, it folds and converts into a grocery-sized carrier ready for the checkout.

The activation comes via Taylor Herring, Aldi’s consumer PR agency, and continues the supermarket’s habit of turning ordinary shopping behaviour into fashion.

Earlier this year it put Specialbuys on Hawaiian shirts, while its most recent stunt saw a store turn Barbie pink.

The research also uncovered what shoppers resort to when they forget a carrier. Alternatives include cardboard boxes, buckets, baby changing bags, pet carriers and, for 2% of respondents, a wheelbarrow.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “Forgetting your bag for life is something we’ve all done, so our Swag For Life Jacket makes sure you’ll never be without one at the checkout again.”

The Swag For Life Jacket will be available through an email giveaway at aldi.co.uk/swagforlife from 23 September 2026.
