A giant Trojan Horse arrives in Trafalgar Square for The Odyssey

A towering Trojan Horse appeared overnight in Trafalgar Square to mark the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, transforming one of London’s best-known public spaces into a curtain raiser for the forthcoming film.

Standing 11 metres high, the four-tonne installation rose from a sand-covered base between the square’s famous bronze lions and fountains, beneath Nelson’s Column.

Designed to recreate the weathered wooden horse seen in Nolan’s mythic action epic, the sculpture offered an eye-catching preview of the film inspired by Homer’s ancient tale.

The ambitious build by the team at Universal Pictures took six weeks and more than 300 hours of work, with a team of 45 designers, steelworkers, fabricators and engineers bringing the structure to life.

Alongside the giant horse, visitors could explore an exhibition featuring stills from the film and behind-the-scenes photography, while a walkway lined with flaming torches added to the cinematic atmosphere.

The installation was unveiled following the film’s world premiere and will remain in Trafalgar Square for one day before moving to Westfield London in White City.
