When Skittles staged a Broadway musical

By on Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Back in January Skittles announced it would be ditching a Super Bowl ad to stage a one-off, Broadway musical.

For one night only the sweet brand took over a theatre in New York and cast Michael C Hall (Dexter and Six Feet Under) in the starring role.

The ad extravaganza, titled “Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical,” took place on Super Bowl Sunday as a creative alternative to brand taking a spot during the game, which would’ve cost circa $5 million for 30 seconds of airtime.

The show plot follows Hall as he agrees to appear in a Skittles commercial and then wrestles with doubt over his decision.

Tickets went on sale with prices ranging from $30 to $205 – proceeds would to charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
