Ryan Gosling’s ‘La La Hand’ finally fixed for 10th anniversary poster

Lionsgate has retouched the La La Land poster Ryan Gosling has spent a decade disliking.

To mark the film’s 10th anniversary, the studio has released a new version of the key art with Gosling’s hand repositioned, correcting the pose he has nicknamed “La La Hand”.

Gosling and Emma Stone shot the image mid-dance for what became the film’s signature poster, but Gosling improvised on set, flattening his hand rather than raising it as instructed.

He has regretted the decision ever since.

“There is a moment that haunts me,” he told The Wall Street Journal in a 2024 interview. “I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie. We were supposed to have our hands up, and I thought it would be cool to put my hand more flat, even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool. I was sure it was cooler.” He added: “Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time… it just killed the energy that way. I call it La La Hand.”

The updated poster lands ahead of a one-night rerelease on Sunday, August 16, when Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres will screen the musical, which won six Oscars including Best Director and Best Cinematography.
