The Sphere has landed on the Wicked Witch Of the East

The Sphere in Las Vegas has dropped a house and a full-blown campaign — on the Wicked Witch of the East.
Two 50-foot legs wearing oversized ruby slippers are seen sticking out from under the venue, a nod to the classic Wizard of Oz scene where Dorothy’s farmhouse lands with a thud.
The installation is part of the lead-up to Sphere’s upcoming Wizard of Oz immersive experience, opening August 28.
It took 500 hours to build, 1,000 yards of custom fabric, and a 10-person crew just to inflate and install the legs. Each one takes four hours to get upright.
The ruby slippers are nearly 30 times larger than a standard size six.
On the Sphere’s 580,000 square foot LED exterior, a new visual recreates the twister sequence from the 1939 film.
Inside, the show promises all the high-sensory tech the venue’s known for: surround visuals, scent effects, haptic seats, and remastered audio, all designed to put audiences right in the middle of the story.

“If you’ve ever wondered if Oz actually exists — it does inside Sphere,” said Jim Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment.
It’s a big swing at reimagining a familiar property through tech and spectacle, in line with Sphere’s past efforts like its hyper-real Halloween face or U2’s digitally layered residency.
Turns out, there’s no place like a 17,500-seat immersive dome.
