IKEA’s new lamp brings the realities of sleep poverty to light

By on Friday, March 21, 2025

IKEA Canada have put a spotlight, quite literally, on the sleep poverty problem that over half a million children are facing.

To draw attention to the issue, IKEA Canada have created the Sleepless Lamp in partnership with charity, Furniture Bank.

This isn’t a regular bedside lamp. Sourced from data meticulously gathered by a team of doctors in sleep medicine, the lamp’s light goes on and off, capturing the restless nights endured by those trapped in sleep poverty.

The fallout from sleep deprivation weaves itself into every aspect of a child’s life, affecting academic performance, mental health, and social skills.

IKEA Canada have pledged a $300,000 over the next three years and have committed to dishing out 1,200 Sleep Well Kits in 2025. These kits aim to offer some relief and restore the fundamental right to adequate sleep for children in need.

Visit IKEA.ca/SleeplessLamp and sign the pledge to help end sleep poverty and put this issue to bed for good.
