Thomas Cook unveil plan to end ‘sunbed wars’

Thomas Cook is offering holidaymakers the chance to pre-book their sun loungers, and avoid that early morning poolside grapple.

For €25 (£22), customers will be able to book a specific sun lounger for their entire holiday.

The company says it is the UK’s first package holiday firm to offer this service, which it is trialling at three hotels in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura from the end of February.

Customers will receive an email six days before departure asking if they would like to choose their sunbed in advance and will be able to choose their preferred spot on a pool plan to help them work out what time of the day areas will be in the sun or shade.

The stunt picked up a haul of media coverage including this Sun splash…

It also prompted much hilarity and chatter on Twitter.

Last Summer Irish book maker Paddy Power hooked onto sun lounger dash season with this viral video…

Chris Mottershead, Thomas Cook’s UK managing director, said the initiative will particularly help “families that want to secure a number of beds together in a specific spot.”
