Save The Children dust off the ugly Christmas jumpers for festive campaign
By Lawrence Davies on Tuesday, December 13, 2016
2016 has been a year of much sadness and despair. From dead celebrities to groundbreaking decisions on either side of the Atlantic, we all need to collectively take a deep breath and tuck into copious amounts of cheese and wine. I’m sure we can all agree, Christmas spirit this year needs to be at an all-time high.
We’ve enjoyed the usual array of high budget Christmas adverts from supermarkets and retailers all vying for our attention (and YouTube views). However, the festive season is also a time to remember the charities and not-for-profit organisations who work hard to make the festive season that little bit more enjoyable for those in need.
Save The Children is hosting its annual Christmas Jumper Day, taking place on Friday 16th December. To mark the day, Save The Children has teamed up with London’s iconic wax work exhibitor Madame Tussauds to dress The Royal Family, Corgi’s and all, in ugly Christmas jumpers.
This wonderfully simple PR stunt reaffirms how much we’re in love with Elizabeth and Co., and truly tasteless Christmas attire. Kate and Wills are elegantly united in a two-person sweater as Prince Harry smiles on in a dark green Penguin fronted number. The highlight of the image is undoubtedly HRH herself, styled in an elegant knitted jumper with a crowned Corgi.
This PR stunt has seen some extremely positive coverage being picked up by titles including, Mashable, Telegraph, Observer and Huffington Post. So far the campaign from Save The Children has raised £52,104 and that’s still three days before the main event is due to start.
A PR favourite Madame Tussauds has been quick at reacting to the news agenda, from splitting up Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie back in September 2016 marking their divorce. And when Arnold Schwarzenegger took unwitting fans by surprise by coming to life as his most iconic character Terminator to raise awareness for charity After-School All-Stars.
