Reddit campaign makes the case for real people in a fake internet
Reddit has spent two decades as one of the internet’s most powerful forums, a sprawling network of communities where strangers swap honest advice, niche obsessions and unfiltered opinions.
Long before brands talked about authenticity, Reddit threads were already the place people went to find out what other people actually thought. Now it is putting that real conversation at the centre of its biggest brand push yet.
Reddit has rolled out People Are The Best, a new brand campaign celebrating raw human connection, created with agency Mischief. Starting in New York and Chicago, the work shines a light on the unexpected, genuinely human conversations happening every day across Reddit communities.
In an online world where it is increasingly hard to tell what is real, Reddit is making the case for honest exchanges between actual people.
Rather than talk in the abstract, the campaign picks three communities and lets them speak for themselves, capturing the candour, humour and obsessive detail that keep people coming back. The initial run covers TV, streaming, out-of-home and social, with more US markets to follow in the coming months.
It taps a growing appetite for genuine community voices, echoing Dove’s recent Reddit reviews work.
Shining a light on Reddit’s well-informed beauty aficionados, this beauty spot captures the boots-on-ground journalism, the honest product reviews and the genuine tips from everyday people who have actually used the product. It is a nod to the communities where a recommendation is trusted precisely because nobody is being paid to make it.
Aimed at TV lovers, another spot highlights the deep dives, the wild plot-twist breakdowns and the relatable recommendations found in Reddit’s TV communities. These are the spaces where fandom is born and where it carries on long after the final episode has aired.
Geared towards lifelong fans and casual viewers alike, a soccer ad showcases the camaraderie, the real-time play-by-plays and the deep tactical breakdowns that keep Reddit’s soccer communities alive, turning every ninety-minute match into a shared watch party.
“At a moment when people are craving something more real online, there’s no better place to find it than in a Reddit thread. ‘People Are the Best’ is our way of celebrating the hundreds of millions who show up every day to keep the internet human,” said Jim Squires, Reddit’s CMO.
“So much of the internet feels disconnected from real life now, and Reddit is a place where people can learn from others’ life experiences, and feel part of something bigger than themselves. This campaign is our way of showing that Reddit communities and human connections are worth coming back for,” said Greg Hahn, co-founder and CCO at Mischief, who recently spoke to Famous Campaigns.
