Sofa surprise brings comfort to the Wimbledon queue

In a playful move that turned waiting into a marketing moment, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) dropped a second-hand sofa straight into the famously long Wimbledon line.

Sourced from the charity’s Kingston store, the £95 sofa landed in the middle of Wimbledon Park, to promote BHF’s nationwide furniture delivery service, a creative way to spotlight their sustainable, budget-friendly furniture offer.

“When we found out that British Heart Foundation were providing this lovely sofa for the queue this morning, we took full advantage!” said Roberta Bennington, who’d travelled from Northern Ireland to queue for tickets.

“We loved bringing a little extra comfort to the Wimbledon queue today,” said BHF’s Retail Director Allison Swaine Hughes. “It was a fun way to show that our furniture is not only stylish and sustainable, but also available for delivery wherever you need it… even Wimbledon Park!”

With over 185,000 preloved sofas and armchairs sold last year and more than 54,000 tonnes of goods diverted from landfill the activation also nudged traffic to BHF’s eBay store and local outlets, putting resale right where the eyeballs (and aching legs) were.
