Greggs opens its first-ever pub

By on Wednesday, September 24, 2025

The British high street bakery chain has opened The Golden Flake Tavern, a limited-time pub concept tucked inside Fenwick Newcastle, offering exclusive beers and an unapologetically Greggs-inspired menu.

Running for five months from 27 September, the pop-up pub is the latest in a series of creative crossovers between Greggs and Fenwick, following the Bistro Greggs fine-dining experience in 2023 and this year’s Greggs Champagne Bar.

This time, the duo are betting on beer, hearty comfort food, and a pinch of pub nostalgia to reimagine the Greggs brand yet again.

At the bar, guests can order two house brews developed with local outfit Full Circle Brew Co: the Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager.

There’s also a full Greggs-themed cocktail list, featuring creations like the Spiced Caramel Doughnut Old Fashioned.

And for those who want to take the taste home, both beers will be available to purchase online and via the Fenwick Food Hall.

Food-wise, the tavern leans into pub classics with Greggs twists—think Chicken Bake Parmo, a Ploughman’s platter with sausage roll slices, and a Sunday carvery where your roast centres around a bake of your choice.

“Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick, we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together,” said Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs.
