Ikea unveil seagull poop posters for Brighton store launch

IKEA is tapping into Brighton’s seagull situation with a series of out-of-home ads that are impossible to miss — or clean.
Promoting the opening of its new store in the coastal city, the brand (with agency Mother) has plastered images of its furniture range with one very local touch: bird droppings.
From chairs and stools to filing cabinets, each poster looks like it’s been freshly bombed by the city’s most infamous residents.
“Step out your front door, sit on a bench or look out your car window, there are presents left for you everywhere. It’s just part of life that every Brighton local deals with,” said the agency in a LinkedIn post.
The Swedish giant is clearly favouring humour over hype.
In addition the homestore opened a ‘chip theft insurance kiosk’ giving free chips to locals to try to make up for all the meals disrupted by the city’s infamous troublemakers over the years.
It’s also a best in class example of hyperlocal marketing – the seagull stunt hits the sweet spot: funny, relatable, and unmistakably on brand.
