If strawberries and cream sarnies didn’t send you over the edge Heinz just released a ketchup smoothie.
They teamed up with smoothie brand Smoothie King to play with the idea that ketchup might just count as a smoothie.
While everyone knows the age-old question “is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?” the internet has been asking, “if tomatoes are a fruit, is ketchup a smoothie?”
So today, Heinz teams up with the world’s largest smoothie brand, Smoothie King, to go all in and settle the debate.
The result is the Heinz Tomato Ketchup Smoothie — a chilled blend of fruit and the popular red condiment, landing in select Smoothie King stores across five US cities from August 6.
The smoothie mixes strawberries, raspberries, acai sorbet, and apple juice with Heinz Simply Ketchup.
It’s a tangy-sweet take that falls somewhere between familiar and unexpected, and attempts to sit within both brands’ clean-label promises.
This isn’t Heinz’s first unconventional food collab — the brand teamed up with Absolut to launch a vodka pasta sauce inspired by social media craze. after American model Gigi Hadid admitted she liked her pasta with a little vodka kick.
In 2023, to celebrate Barbie turning 65, Heinz and Mattel created a buzzworthy summer sauce – vegan mayo Barbie-cue!
Last year Heinz and Paramount Pictures dropped The Godfather Pasta Sauce – with the exact ingredients named in the film by Peter “leave the gun, take the cannoli” Clemenza as he teaches Michael Corleone how to cook the perfect pasta sauce.
The series taps into a wider trend of quirky food and drink pairings that lean into internet pop culture while staying rooted in ingredient quality.
