“Third Toilet” takes aim at trans rights outside UK Supreme Court

An unmissable toilet installation has popped up outside the UK Supreme Court – and it’s not a joke.
TransActual UK, in collaboration with BBH London, has launched the “Third Toilet” to spotlight the urgent lack of clarity and protection for trans people in the wake of a landmark legal ruling.
In April, the Supreme Court decided that the legal definition of “woman” in the Equality Act refers to biological sex, a move critics say threatens trans people’s access to single-sex spaces – from toilets to hospital wards.
The installation directly responds to Baroness Kishwer Falkner’s call for a “third space” for trans people.
But this “solution” raises a piercing question: where are trans people actually supposed to go?
Beyond bathrooms, the campaign calls out the broader marginalisation of trans lives, demanding urgent policy action to protect access to education, healthcare, work – and human dignity.
Camila Gurgel and Ieva Paulina, Associate Creative Directors at BBH, said: “We can’t call it a victory when so much has been lost. The trans community was left out of a decision that directly impacted their lives. So we set out to create something that will help their voices be heard and their demands recognised. Our hope is that the Third Toilet installation sparks awareness, conversation, solidarity and inspires more people to stand with the trans community.”
