LEGO hits top gear at Miami GP with driveable F1 car parade

The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix got a playful twist this weekend, as LEGO took over the Drivers’ Parade with 10 fully driveable F1 cars – made almost entirely out of bricks.

In partnership with Formula 1 and all 10 teams on the grid, the LEGO Group unveiled near life-size versions of F1 cars, each made from nearly 400,000 bricks, weighing in at 1,500kg, and capable of hitting speeds up to 20 km/h.

Designed at LEGO’s Kladno factory in the Czech Republic, the builds took a team of 26 experts over 22,000 hours to complete.

Each car features meticulous detailing from team logos to authentic Pirelli tyres – modelled after the LEGO Speed Champions range.

For the first time ever, all 20 F1 drivers took a lap in their LEGO counterparts, celebrating a growing partnership aimed at bringing fun, family-focused moments to the race calendar.

“At the LEGO Group, we are constantly striving to push the boundaries of what is possible,” said Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of the LEGO Group. “This latest challenge is a true testament to that, marking an extraordinary collaboration between the LEGO Group, Formula 1 and its 10 teams. We know that drivable big builds have an unparalleled ability to evoke excitement amongst fans, and are delighted to see the reaction unveiling 10 at the same time has brought. We hope these unique creations reinforce that with imagination and a LEGO brick in-hand; creativity has limitless possibilities.”
