Duolingo’s Owl Duo Rises From The ‘Dead’

By on Friday, February 28, 2025

Duolingo’s sassy, green owl mascot, Duo recently “died” only to rise from the dead, leaving the internet in a frenzy.

It all started with a viral video showing Duo being hit by a Cybertruck, leading to his supposed demise. The internet mourned, brands paid tribute, and fans were left in shock.

The app rolled out an interactive challenge urging them to bring Duo back by gaining experience points through lessons, tracking progress on a website titled It’s Duo or Die.

But just when we thought we’d seen the last of our feathered friend, Duolingo dropped a bombshell: Duo had faked his death as a test, and we all passed.

The resurrection was announced in a TikTok video that quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and comments from fans and brands alike. The video, captioned “Y’all really think I’d let a Cybertruck take me out?” showed Duo emerging from a coffin.

Brands like Peppa Pig, Furby, and Kit Kat joined in on the fun, leaving witty comments and creating their own content around Duo’s return.
