Virgin Atlantic celebrates International Week of Deaf People with a splash. The carrier has made history as the first UK airline to introduce British Sign Language (BSL)-trained cabin crew on all flights, taking its commitment to air travel accessibility, to new heights.
While 82% of individuals with hearing loss plan to travel in the next year, 58% are worried about communication challenges with cabin crew, and 90% are concerned about missing important announcements according to new data.
Virgin Atlantic has recognised the challenge introducing Sign Live, an on-demand BSL interpreter service for customer support and establishing an Accessibility Advisory Board, composed of industry leaders with personal experiences of accessible travel.
Collaborating with key figures from the deaf community, including Jodie Ounsley, a deaf Gladiators star, and deaf twin content creators Hermon and Heroda Berhane to put their services to the test. They will be providing feedback to its newly established Accessibility Advisory Board which will play a crucial role in shaping future improvements.
