Morrisons is to switch off Christmas music in stores on Saturday

Morrisons is to switch off all its music – including checkout beeps – on Saturday as part of a ‘quiet morning’ to give shoppers a calmer experience.

Mail Online reports that Morrisons is to make the change at all of its 494 stores, turning off its store radio between the hours of 9am and 12pm.

The chain will also turn down the beeping sounds at all of its main checkout, express lane and self-service tills.

Anna Lane, Customer Director at Morrisons said: ‘Some customers love listening to Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney and Wham as they do their Christmas shop. Other customers have told us they’d like the option of a calmer morning without music, so that they can focus on buying everything they need for Christmas.’
