Uber trades Tokyo gridlock for drifting
Uber is adding tyre smoke to its travel app, inviting visitors to Tokyo to trade-up the daily commute for a ride-along in a sideways-sliding Nissan.
Running from 3 June to 1 July, Uber Drift lets users book a half-day drifting experience through the Uber app, with hotel pickup in central Tokyo and a transfer to the Mobara Twin Circuit.
The activation is the latest in Uber’s global ‘Go Anywhere’ series, following Uber Safari in South Africa and Uber Balloon in Turkey, and marks its first stop in the Asia-Pacific region.

It continues the brand’s past tradition of reframing transport as an event.

On track, guests ride shotgun alongside licensed Formula Drift professionals for roughly 90 minutes, with tandem runs reaching up to 100 km/h in the Nissan Silvia S15 and 180SX. Helmets are provided.

Designed for private groups of up to four, the package costs a flat ¥30,000 (US$188), with only four slots a day.
By bundling transport, track access and pro drivers, Uber strips away the logistics that usually keep niche motorsport out of reach for tourists.
