British Museum lights up White Cliffs for Bayeux Tapestry
The British Museum illuminated the White Cliffs of Dover with a giant projection inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry as the 11th-century masterpiece made its journey to London ahead of a landmark exhibition.
The projection transformed Kent’s coastline into a striking thank you to France for the historic loan, displaying Norman soldiers alongside the message “Merci!”

The installation coincided with the tapestry’s overnight journey from the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone to the capital under police escort.
The 70-metre embroidered work chronicles the Norman Conquest of England and will go on public display at the British Museum from September until July 2027.
