Porsche reunites Cars icons at Daytona

Two decades after Pixar’s Cars first screeched into cinemas, Porsche has brought Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera back together for a high-octane anniversary celebration at Daytona International Speedway.

Ahead of the 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race this weekend, the beloved Pixar duo were reunited on the track – joined by two modern racing legends: the Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 and AO Racing’s fan-favourite “Rexy” 911 GT3 R.

The crossover of fictional favourites and real-world speed machines created a striking visual tribute to Cars.
Fans of the movie can see Sally Carrera up close at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta.

The activation gave fans a chance to meet McQueen and Sally in person – a nod to the film’s enduring cultural cachet and a savvy piece of brand storytelling from Porsche.

The brand has long had a connection to Cars, with Sally Carrera famously modelled on a 2002 Porsche 911, and Porsche Design collaborating with Pixar in 2022 to auction a one-off real-world Sally car for charity.
Now, with the film’s 20th anniversary on the horizon, Porsche is once again leaning into the nostalgia – blending heritage, Hollywood and horsepower.
