Banking hub marks 200th milestone with chocolate coin tribute

To mark the opening of its 200th banking hub, Cash Access UK has unveiled a mouth-watering tribute to Britain’s coinage heritage – a handcrafted collection of historic coins recreated entirely in chocolate.

On display at the new hub in Billericay, Essex, the edible exhibit includes intricately detailed replicas of coins from the Late Iron Age to the modern day – including a Roman Denarius, a Henry VI Noble and a shiny two-shilling piece.

The stars of the collection are chocolate portraits of King Henry VIII and Queen Victoria, brushed with edible silver, gold and bronze for a lustrous finish.

Created by a chocolatier using 15kg of milk chocolate and over 10g of metallic dust, the project took 80 hours to complete. Six oversized coins also feature in a new video showing how each piece was “minted”.

The launch coincides with research by Cash Access UK, revealing that cash still holds emotional sway during the festive season. Nearly half of Brits (47%) say receiving cash in a Christmas card brings unmatched joy, while over a third (34%) believe bank transfers lack the magic of traditional gifting.

“We’re proud to celebrate this Christmas tradition,” said Alex Conaway, CMO at Cash Access UK. “Cash still means a lot to people – especially at this time of year.”

The new Billericay hub is now open and giving away complimentary coins – while supplies last.
