Aldi unveils XL topiary Cuthbert cake in Brighton

Aldi unveils a giant topiary version of its much-loved Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake and visits a rival M&S store before it took up residence in Eastbourne.
The 12ft-long sculpture – decked out in fairy lights, baubles, festive shoes and a Santa hat – made a tour of Brighton’s best spots including the pier and Royal Pavilion, turning heads and lighting up social media.

But it was the not-so-subtle stop at M&S that added an extra layer of seasonal spice to the long-running brand rivalry.

“Cuthbert is an Aldi icon, so it only felt right we gave him a festive twist,” said Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK’s Chief Commercial Officer. “We can’t wait for shoppers to come down, grab a photo and get into the Christmas spirit with him.”

Fans can visit the festive caterpillar from 18-22 December at Aldi’s Pacific Drive store in Eastbourne.
