Emirates delivers Real Madrid match ball by ‘plane drone’

In a slick piece of live-event branding, Emirates delivered the official match ball for El Clásico via a custom drone.
The drop happened just before kick-off in Sunday’s clash between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
A ‘plane drone’ branded with the Emirates logo descended into the centre circle, carrying the match ball like cargo, before releasing it neatly onto the pitch.

The airline has long-standing ties with both LaLiga giants, and this latest move adds another layer to its matchday presence – one that transcends perimeter boards or shirt sponsorship.
For Euro 2022 a Volkswagen remote controlled car nicknamed “Tiny Football Car” brought the match ball to the centre-circle shortly before the kick-off of the opening game between Italy and Turkey.
Visually, Emirates drone drop was made for social.
The clip circulated widely across Instagram and TikTok within hours, with fans calling it everything from “extra” to “elite.”
