Lewis Capaldi rebrands aldi as “cap-aldi” for surprise rooftop gig

Lewis Capaldi turned a regular grocery run into a supermarket fever dream this week, climbing onto the roof of an Aldi in Nottingham to perform a surprise live set.

Complete with a DIY rebrand – swapping Aldi’s signage for a makeshift “Cap-Aldi” banner the Scottish singer treated unsuspecting shoppers to an impromptu performance of three tracks, including his latest single, Something in the Heavens.

The stunt marks a playful moment of promo for Capaldi, whose new track dropped days before he embarked on a sold-out UK arena tour. Alongside the single, he also played Someone You Loved and Survive, with customers quickly ditching their trolleys to gather outside the store.

It’s not Aldi’s first time tapping into music fandom. Earlier this year, the discounter temporarily rebranded its Prestwich store as “Aldeh” to mark Oasis’ return to Heaton Park.

Capaldi joked about the surreal moment, saying, “This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi. Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I was back there earlier – some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots the lot.”

Aldi’s Chief Commercial Officer Julie Ashfield called the moment “supermarket history,” adding, “It doesn’t get more heavenly than Lewis Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi—it feels like this moment was written in the stars.”
