StreetDoctors unmask the ‘safe’ knife crime myths

“Where’s a safe place to stab someone?” Young people across the UK are asking this haunting question, exposing a dangerous misunderstanding about knife crime. Alarmingly, 80% of teenage homicides involve a knife, with offenses rising by 81% over the past decade.

To address this, youth charity StreetDoctors and Saatchi & Saatchi have launched ‘The Fatal Question.’ This campaign includes an interactive installation that challenges students to identify “safe” stabbing spots on a human sculpture, only to reveal stories of real victims, including Damilola Taylor and Joshua Ribera.

The initiative debuted at St Martins in the Fields High School, offering students workshops on first aid and strategies to avoid knife violence. The project aims to dismantle dangerous myths and raise awareness that all knife violence carries fatal risks.

“Over ten years ago, my son Joshua was stabbed through the heart – and in that single moment, the trajectories of both our lives changed forever. There is no safe space to stab someone – every knife attack risks ending a life and devastating countless others. Speaking in schools and colleges across the country, I still meet young people who believe the myth that some stabbings aren’t fatal. If Joshua’s story and this campaign save even one life, then maybe another family will be spared the pain I live with every day.”

With over 10,000 young people trained annually, StreetDoctors aims to change perceptions and save lives.
