Samuel L. Jackson backs motherf*ckin’ wind farms

Samuel L. Jackson – the A‑lister known from Pulp Fiction, Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a former marine biology student – has teamed up with Vattenfall to champion “motherf*ckin’ wind farms.

Natural energy company Vattenfall is experimenting with cultivating seaweed as a source of food that also helps regenerate marine ecosystems.

The campaign aims to flip perceptions of offshore wind farms by highlighting their potential both above and below the surface

The initiative, developed by creative agency NORD DDB, highlights seaweed grown at Vattenfall’s Vesterhav Syd wind farm in Denmark.

The seaweed is used to produce snacks as part of a pilot project called WIN@sea, which explores how wind farms can contribute to environmental regeneration.

“For me, it’s about the world we’re leaving behind for the next generation,” Jackson said. “These offshore wind farms aren’t just producing fossil free electricity, they also create a habitat for sea life to grow. That’s next-level thinking.”

Jackson, who studied marine biology before his acting career, expressed a personal connection to the project. His involvement aims to draw wider attention to the lesser-known benefits of renewable energy infrastructure.

Monica Holmvik Persdotter, Vice President of Brand at Vattenfall, said the campaign seeks to shift public perceptions. “With an advocate like Samuel L. Jackson, who has shown a true passion for this project, we created a campaign that’s both playful and effective.”

The campaign is being launched across Vattenfall’s main markets – including the UK, Sweden, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands – and will be shown on television, in cinemas, online, and in print. Media planning was led by OMD Sweden.

The Wind Farmed Seaweed Snacks, created in collaboration with Danish company Wavy Wonders, are not intended for retail but will be shared with select communities and Vattenfall employees to raise awareness.

Celebrity involvement in environmental campaigns has become more common in recent years. Jackson joins a number of high-profile figures lending their voices to sustainability initiatives.
