Tesco says ‘I do’ to the weekly shop with new wedding gift registry

This week, Tesco’s have binned the traditional wedding registry, offering loved-up customers a more ‘realistic’ wish list.
Curated by Married at First Sight expert Mel Shilling, the registry features six bespoke wedding bundles filled with household staples such as bin liners, toothpaste and even toilet rolls. Speaking on the bleak buys, Mel addressed the ‘real needs’ of modern couples, stating that “Having the basics taken care of can help build the foundations of a relationship”.
The unconventional service follows a survey commissioned by Tesco, which revealed that a shocking 88% of newlyweds would prefer these practical items, whilst a further 18% said they would take a year’s worth of free groceries over a typical registry gift. A Tesco spokeswoman said: “While toilet roll and teabags might not immediately seem like the most romantic option, it’s clear from our research that these are the products that could help to get married life off to a brilliant start”
Bundles range from the £39 “I Love Brew” (tea, biscuits, mugs) to the £63 “Really Useful Stuff,” plus a £156 champagne set for those who still fancy some fizz.
Maybe happily ever after really is just a trolley ride away.
