Across the world, events have been cancelled for the second year in a row, unfortunately, Spain’s annual tomato-throwing festival, La Tomatina, has once again been put on hold.
However, Heinz has stepped in to show their support, by turning delicious Spanish tomato’s into a limited edition Heinz Tomato Ketchup bottle – featuring only the juiciest tomatoes grown in Spain.
The cancellation comes as a bitter disappointment to Spanish farmers, who rely heavily on the festival for additional income through the sale of thousands of tomatoes. Tourists hoping to get in on the action have also, quite literally, been left empty-handed.
Supported by a corporate donation to Spanish agriculture, this is just another example of the company’s confidence and commitment to local agriculture, which in the last year alone has increased the purchase of tomatoes from Spanish producers by 50%.
“For us, as a company, it is essential to generate a positive impact on local communities through our activity and production,” says Elisenda Picola, marketing director of Heinz Spain. “For this reason, we are very proud to be able to help the development of Spanish agriculture, as well as all the households that dedicate their day to day to cultivating a product ‘like ours’ as the tomato.”
The limited, special edition batch of ketchup features a custom Tomatina label and will be available on shelves soon.
