Why KFC dropped ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ slogan from ads

KFC has decided to pause using its “finger lickin’ good” slogan because of COVID.

OK – KFC has decided to pause using its “finger lickin’ good” slogan because it’s a clever marketing idea that was devised to deliver a bucket of PR coverage.

Last night KFC said that the 64-year-old slogan “doesn’t feel quite right.”

“We find ourselves in a unique situation — having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment,” said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer at KFC in a statement.
OOH sites in London now carry a disclaimer.
KFC have also blurred out slogans featured on old billboards in a nostalgic and cheeky ad released on YouTube.
The company said the slogan will return when the “time is right” – and when that time comes they’ll get another avalanche of free media coverage.
