Sharapova to change name to ‘Sugarpova’ throughout US Open in PR stunt to promote sweet line

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova hopes to legally change her surname to Sugarpova for the duration of the US Open in a PR stunt designed to promote her ‘fun’ brand of sweets.

Sharapova plans to wear the Sugarpova logo on her kit during the tournament and would be introduced, addressed and have scores called out as Miss Sugarpova throughout, in a PR stunt reminiscent of snooker player Jimmy White’s 2005 namechange to Jimmy Brown, sponsored by HP Sauce.
