Get a load of this: Ecover tackle over-washing with ‘The Rewear Chair’
By Jamie Hesketh on Tuesday, October 1, 2024
Ecover’s latest invention, “The Rewear Chair”, aims to tackle that ever-growing pile of clothes in an unexpected way!
With this new initiative, Ecover aim to foster more sustainable clothing practices after their research discovered that the seemingly mundane behaviour of piling clothes on your bedroom chair actually has a significant environmental repercussions – thanks to unnecessary over-washing.
Over-washing not only squanders water and energy but also shortens the lifespan of garments, escalating the problem of textile waste. By spotlighting this ubiquitous habit, the cleaning product brand aims to inspire a shift towards more eco-friendly clothing practices.
Central to the campaign is the Rewear Chair itself. Its extendable arms are intended to hang clothes, advocating for rewearing outfits instead of defaulting to washing them after just one use. This thoughtful design nudges individuals to reconsider their laundry routines and embrace sustainability.
Nils Leonard from Uncommon Creative Studio said “The eco-friendly choice can also be the most aesthetically pleasing choice. The Rewear Chair demonstrates that good design can prompt us to rethink our habits for the better. This is design at its finest, solving problems while also raising important questions.”
