Doritos and Empirical set to release a nacho cheese flavoured spirit

Do you love crisps so much that you’d drink them? Serial snackers can now become sophisticated sippers, as Doritos and drinks company Empirical are set to launch a Nacho Cheese flavour spirit, the US version of the UK’s ‘Tangy Cheese’.

The concoction is a clear, savoury alcohol sitting at 42%, and apparently pairs well in a Margarita, Bloody Mary, Old Fashioned, or over ice. Doritos promises that the spirit will “smell and taste just like the real thing” being the “iconic nacho cheese flavour in a bottle”.

It’s made from real crisps, where their ‘essence’ has been extracted through vacuum distillation.

Tina Mahal, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Frito Lay (owner of Doritos) in North America said: “Doritos is all about disrupting culture and bringing our fans unexpected, bold experiences.”

“We’re always pushing our fans to try new things, so we figure it’s time we disrupt the spirits category by offering our iconic Nacho Cheese flavour in a bottle.”

The drink is able to be pre-ordered online, but is only available for in person purchases in select stores in the USA from next month – it costs $65 (£51).
