RC Lens x Players for Society collaborate for World Blood Donation Day

In honour of Blood Donation Day French football club RC Lens collaborated with Players for Society and used blood group signs on players football shirts to raise awareness of the importance of donating blood.

The idea stemmed from research published by France’s Etablissement Francais du Sang’s which revealed that as a country they were 30,000 blood bags short of the 100,000 needed.

The club’s motto of Sang et Or (Blood and Gold) was changed to Notre Sang est Or (Our blood is Gold) as well as the coat of arms also turning to gold. In players that had an A, B or O in their name a plus or minus was added to indicate their blood type. For example, SAID on Wesley Saïd’s jersey was written as SA+ID in the match against Nantes on April 30th. The campaign launched on social media and the promotional message was shared on football scarves, escort children’s tops, perimeter boards and on the players social networks.

Although the match ended with draw, hundreds of fans and even the team coach signed up to donate their blood at the stadium. From this blood drive alone, there was a 26% increase in blood bags collected compared to previous blood drives ran in the city.

There is no doubt that this campaign was a huge A+ccomplishment.
