An amazingly powerful video, entitled “Be A Lady, They Said” has been posted on social media by Girls Girls Girls magazine.

It features Cynthia Nixon (of Sex And The City) reading a piece of writing about the pressures of being a woman.

The words, originally published in 2017, are by blogger Camille Rainvill.

“Don’t be too fat. Don’t be too thin. Score weight. Lose weight. Stop eating so much. Don’t eat too fast. Order a salad. Don’t eat carbs. You need to lose weight. Get on a diet. God, you look like a skeleton. Why don’t you just eat? You look sick. Eat a Burger. Men love women with meat on their bones. Be easy. Be a little. Be gentle. Be feminine. Be a lady, they said. Don’t talk too loud. Don’t talk too much. Don’t be scared. Why are you so unhappy? Don’t be a bitch. Don’t be so arrogant. Don’t be emotional, don’t cry, don’t shout, don’t swear. You’ll be a good wife. Will take his name. You copied my name? Crazy feminist. Give birth to his children. You don’t want kids? Ever want. You’ll change your mind”.
