Game of Thrones fans can pay £20,000 to be killed in the next book

George R R Martin is giving fans of the mighty Game of Thrones the chance to feature – and be killed in – the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, for a mere £20,000.
In a bid to raise money for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot of his home town Santa Fe, the author has promised two fans “a grisly death”, much like many of the books’ best-loved characters. There is one male character and one female character available, and they will even able to choose their character’s station in the world (lordling, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything).
Martin is aiming to raise £200,000, and is asking fans to donate amounts ranging from £10-£20,000, rewarding those who pledge more with a better prize. £50 gets you a campaign t-shirt, £350 a signed map of Westeros and so on – the website shows everything available. A nice touch – that will surely incentivise fans – is that the donations each have a title ascribed to them: giving £10 makes you a Ranger, £600 a Lord Commander and £20,000 a Martyr.
The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and TIME are amongst the countless publications that have covered the incredible opportunity. I look forward to seeing who the characters turn out to be, and how they meet their end, which will no doubt be in typically gruesome Martin style.
