Super Bowl “Best Buds” – cuteness win

Superbowl adverts – better than a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
This one will get you. Right, at the heartstrings. Although, this is coming from the man who wells up at “You’ll Never Walk Alone”…
Global brewing behemoth Anheuser-Busch InBev has released a series of new Budweiser adverts to air for the first time during this Sunday’s Superbowl. Yes, that’s right, the Superbowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Definitely didn’t look that up.
Super Bowl XLVIII (that’s 48) will be one of the best watched television shows of the year, and an obvious choice for advertisers. In total, AB InBev is buying 3 1/2 minutes of prime air time for about US$28 million— bargain. And this year, the giant brewer will focus on the cuteness factor with one of their adverts called “Best Buds”. When I showed this to my colleagues, there were collective “oooohs” and “awwwws” all around the office.
A gorgeous little Golden Retriever puppy, possibly a relation of the one of Andrex fame, escapes from his home and makes friends with a massive horse at a nearby farm. The puppy gets returned to his owner, but longingly looks back at the horse with those puppy-dog eyes. It happens again, before a penultimate scene, when the dog is in the back of a car heading away from the farm, and looks longingly out of the back window. The horse leaps over a fence, chases after the vehicle and calls on his equine buddies to halt the car. Must’ve been terrifying for the driver. Cut to the end, and the animals are now living together. Bless.
The “Best Buds” theme is both heart-warming and endearing, and utilises the Golden Retriever pup well – surely a dog which even the most heartless of us wants as a pet. Add a bit of Passenger, ‘Let Her Go’, and you’ve hit the main emotions squarely in the chops.
However, if, like me, you aren’t planning on staying up all night watching the Super Bowl, I have put the link below. All together now, “Awwwwww”.
