Sol Campbell takes a cheeky swipe at Spurs in Google Pixel ad

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has reignited one of football’s most notorious rivalries in a new advert for the Google Pixel phone.

Created by Google Creative Labs, the ad sees Campbell lean into his infamous 2001 transfer from Tottenham to Arsenal, a move that stunned the football world at the time.

The switch paid off for the former defender, who went on to win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his time with the Gunners.

In the clip, Campbell begins by wearing a white jumper, addressing viewers with a knowing smirk: “It’s that time of the year again, the time of year when people start to wonder if the grass might be greener.”

He then pulls off the white jumper to reveal a red sweater underneath—a not-so-subtle nod to his career-defining move.

“Take it from me, big moves pay off,” Campbell says as he strolls into his trophy room, trophies gleaming in the background. “Sure, people will have opinions, but who cares what people think?”

Adding a cheeky touch, Campbell rotates a vase of white lilies out of the camera’s view, a playful jab at Tottenham’s nickname, the Lilywhites.

He wraps up his pitch with a direct message: “If you’re thinking about a transfer this January, I say go for it. It’s not like you’re doing anything outrageous—you’re just switching to something much, much better.”

The ad, designed to encourage people to switch to Google Pixel from other smartphone brands, has sparked plenty of chatter online. Arsenal fans are loving the humour and the throwback to Campbell’s controversial move, while Spurs fans aren’t quite as amused.

While it’s just a bit of fun, the ad has reminded everyone why Campbell remains a divisive figure in North London football history—and why he still knows how to make headlines.
