Charity Steel Warriors Turns Confiscated Knives into Outdoor Community Gyms

By on Monday, March 29, 2021

Over the last five years, anywhere from 20,000 to 40,000 knife offences have been committed in the UK. This year, between the 9th and 15th of November, officers arrested 2005 people, with over 500 of those arrests relating specifically to knife crime.

In response to this ongoing epidemic, the Steel Warriors have created a brilliant campaign to lower knife crime whilst also redirecting aggression in younger adults and teens.

The campaign encourages young adults to turn in their knives, melting down these confiscated weapons and turning them into steel outdoor community gyms.

As of today, they’ve built three around London with plans to add more across the rest of the UK.

HunkyDory director Nick Jay said of the film: “For me, this is a powerful initiative and I felt compelled to create this Film. Ben and I had spoken about this for a while and finally, the timing worked. The project was directed, edited, and shot by me and it takes me back to my grassroots of shooting a story with just me and a camera.”
