Not bad for a man with no personality
By Samantha Summers on Monday, December 16, 2013
For years critics have stated that 26 year old Andy Murray has no personality what-so-ever. Last night, he only went and won Sports Personality of the Year 2013 (voted for by the public).
Whilst Murray was unable to attend the Sports Personality of the Year Cerermony, he did tell the BBC: “I’d like to thank all the public who voted, for giving me so much support over the last couple of years. It’s made a huge difference.”
Immediately following this, and in order to publicly congratulate the tennis star they sponsor (as well as make Andy’s critics feel foolish) Adidas instantly uploaded a sponsored tweet; an image of Andy Murray with the caption “not bad for a man with no personality.”
The advert also ran immediately on a billboard outside the Sports Personality of the Year venue…

In just over 12 hours, the tweet has received almost 13,000 retweets, including Murray himself, and over 5,000 favourites.
I’m sure that breaking down in tears when coming runner-up in the Wimbledon 2012 final, the documentary of his life, and quite possibly the fact his girlfriend is stunning, have all helped to change perceptions of Murray. But at the same time, does it really matter if he has a good personality or not, when all we really care about is how good he is at Tennis?
Either way, congratulations Adidas – you sure are quick off the mark at celebrating some of the best sporting achievements at the moment.
